Laura Reinsborough encourages us to enjoy the fruits of our own labour by picking fruit from our own neighbourhoods. Eating great tasting locally grown food reduces waste and energy consumption.
Laura founded Not Far From The Tree, an organization that harvests fruit bearing plants around Toronto – taking the 100-kilometre diet to a new level. A third of the bounty goes to the volunteers, a third goes to the owner of the tree and a third goes to local shelters, preventing thousands of pounds of fruit from going to waste each year.
"For the most part, the fruit that grows in the city falls on the ground and goes to waste."

What a great idea for ALL cities. My neighbour and I already share herbs ~ I'll have to keep my eyes open for neighbours with fruit trees now!
It's amazing - Not Far From the Tree has collected THOUSANDS of tons of fruit this year that would otherwise have gone to waste! I follow them on twitter (@nfftt) for updates on where they're at. They also have cool workshops.
