What made your hero take action?
Global environmental threats, poverty in first nations communities in Canada and around the world.
What were some of the challenges they faced?
Funding is piecemeal and not systems oriented. People did not believe that renewables could replace diesel generators. Bias towards technology fixes and not on integrated approaches where energy, jobs and economic development are all nested and driven by the community.
What did they achieve?
Pilot project with a first nation and BC Hydro to build the greenest micro grid in Canada, jobs, economic development and more.
project will remove 600 tonnes of carbon (140 cars) from the atmosphere each year. Just this one community. Imagine this project rolled out across Canada and around the world.
What has happened since? How are they inspiring people today?
Finalists to be unreasonable institute fellows, invitaions to work with struggling communities in Thailand, India, Australia and Haiti.

Donna, I had the pleasure to watch the program about the first Nation solar power project you initiated and carry on to the final stage. I am and engineer in the last year develop concept for solar system tracking sun for private and commercial use. I’m looking to promote the system as it is much more efficient and economically wise. If you would be interested to hear about the product I would be glad to present it to you and to discuss future options.
